The Department of Philosophy offers a degree in philosophy with a special emphasis on the history of philosophy, contemporary philosophy, ontology, epistemology, ethics, logic, and problems in the philosophy of history and society. It also offers a degree in the social sciences for secondary school teachers.
In its research activities, the department focuses on English, American, modern and contemporary German and French philosophy, 19th and 20th century Czech philosophy, contemporary approaches to ontology and epistemology, theory of argumentation and philosophy of mind, contemporary and comparative ethics, philosophy of society and history, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, analytic philosophy, philosophical questions of cosmology, logic, logical semantics of natural language and history of women philosophers.
